What Kind Of Underwear You Should Be Wearing, According To Your Butt Shape

Dr. Matthew Schulman, a New York City board-certified plastic surgeon and booty expert has examined an estimated 50,000 butts from 35 countries so it’s safe to say he knows his way around your ASSets. He’s carefully identified the 5 types of butts women have and we’re stoked to see which category you fall into.

Tomima Edmark, a lingerie expert says it’s best to choose an underwear style that’s both comfortable and ultimately flatters your junk in the trunk.

1. Square butt
If the line between your hip bone and outer thigh runs perpendicular to the ground then you have a square butt.

Bottoms you need:
Boy shorts, bikinis, tangas, and thongs can be comfortable and flattering for women with square, flat butts. Avoid panties with elastic-edged leg holes as they can cause extra bunching.

2. V-Shape butt
If the line between your pelvis and hips angles inward, your butt takes on a “V” shape from behind. Dr. Schulman says this butt shape is common among women with broad shoulders and very narrow hips.

Bottoms you need:
Briefs, boy shorts, hipsters, or bikinis without high-cut leg holes are your ideal types of undies. You want to make sure the leg opening cups the bottom of your buns for extra definition because a V-shaped butt can make your cheeks look like they’re sagging

3. A-Shape butt
According to Dr. Schulman,”pear-shaped” women tend to have A-shaped butts that widen below the hip bones.

Bottoms you need:
Tangas, bikinis, or boy shorts made from stretchy lace, or seamless, laser-cut edges are ideal for this booty type. A-shaped butts tend to stem from fuller thighs so the most comfortable underwear has high-cut legs with larger leg holes.

4. Round
You’ve probably seen this kinda rump on ladies like Kim Kardashian and J Lo. Dr. Schulman says if you want a more rounded butt, strengthening the butt muscles can give your backside “more projection” without surgical intervention.

Bottoms you need:
If you’re blessed with a round booty, you’ll need more coverage which requires extra fabric—otherwise, the crotch of your underwear will just shift backward. Tangas and thongs, as well as briefs and boy shorts with four-way stretch and a center back seam are perfect for contouring your shape.

5. Upside-Down Heart Butt
Upside-down heart shapes are exactly as they sound. Think round, but no quite as voluptuous. Dr. Schulman explains that like round butts, “ it involves a curve to the outer hips, but with more volume in the lower part of the hip,”

Bottoms you need:
Girls you can wear briefs, boy shorts, hipsters, or bikinis with a lower-cut leg opening are best for this shape. If you’re worried about looking saggy, make sure your underwear’s leg openings cup the buns, hitting right below your butt crease for the illusion of an instant butt lift.
