A starving two years old Nigerian boy was abandoned because his parents thought he was a witch who possesses terrifying powers. This boy named Hope rescued by a Danish charity worker Anja Ringgren Loven. She spotted the child walk around on the streets and saved him from certain death by getting him treated at a hospital.
This boy was abandoned by his parents because they thought he was a witch and left him alone on the streets of Nigeria and not even bothering to hand him over to an orphanage. The helpless child to take care of himself and relied on the small pieces of food thrown by some compassionate passers-by.
The young boy who struggled to live and manage to survive for eight months under intense weather began succumbing to ill health. The boy slowly began to weaken for lack of food and care lead to starvation for long periods of time. The child began to lose blood and flesh.
Danish aid worker Anja found the naked child on January 31st who was wondering the streets and she was horrified by his skeletal frame and his pathetic condition. Overcome by pity and compassion, the charity worker bent down offering water from her bottle and the boy was rushed to the hospital for further treatment. He was found to be riddled with worms and a low blood count.
The condition of the boy who is admitted to the hospital begins to improve gladdening the hearts of rescue workers, He recovers sufficiently to sit unsupported or smile shyly when he sees a friendly face.
Hope has now become the symbol of hope for every child deserted by their parents who forfeit their responsibility under mistaken beliefs.
