A US couple who were married for more than six decades have died side-by-side just moments after one another in a US nursing home.
Henry and Jeanette De Lange both died on July 31 in South Dakota nursing home, just 20 minutes apart, in what one of their sons has described as a "beautiful act of God"
The happy couple had been married for 63 years and had five children together.
Lee De Lange one of their five children said that the officials with the nursing home called the family earlier on July 31 to say they both weren't doing well.
Two of the couple's five children spent the day with their parents, knowing neither one of them had much time left on earth.
"[The doctor] said your dad's pulse is worse. I wonder if he'll go first," Lee recalled. "About five minutes later, he said, 'I think your mom will go very soon.' It was 5:05 p.m. at that point."
Jeanette De Lange, 87, who was suffering with Alzheimer's, died first at 5:10pm.
After my mom was gone"My brother Keith said to my dad, 'Mom's gone to heaven. You don't have to fight anymore, you can go too if you want,' "Lee recalled.
At 5:30pm, Mr De Lange briefly opened his eyes and gazed one last time as his wife's body before he died.
The family said they were surprised but happy the couple passed away together.
"We read Psalm 103. We didn't quite get done," said Lee.
Lee De Lange, said: 'We're calling it a beautiful act of God's providential love and mercy'
