The crescent-shaped of the nails is the most important and sensitive part of the nail area and should be protected from any damage.
This whitish half-moon is named lunula [small moon in latin] it is the most sensitive part of the nail. The lunula is found at the one fifth position of the nail bottom and it looks like a curve white mark.
The Chinese traditional medicine thinks healthy people must have a lunula on the nail of the thumb, on the nail of the index finger and middle finger, and it is fine not to have lunula on the nail of the ring finger.
A normal nail must be rosy, smooth and glossy, firm and arc-shaped with clear lunula which tells you if you are energetic and healthy. The more energy you have, the whiter the lunula is, on the contrary the lunula is poor in vague. The lunula tells the disease of a person in the color change or disappearing crescent. In general fewer lunula on the fingers results in less energy, poor health conditions, weaker immune system and tiredness. The thumb lunula is the most visible but not with every person it indicates that the physical energy is insufficient and the disease is about to come. A person with small lunula means anemia and malnutrition while pale or bluish lunula indicates possible diabetes. If a person has reddish smudges he or she may be suffering from cardio vascular disease.
