Did you know that your stool can tell a lot about your health and the state of your internal organs? Next time you go to the bathroom take a look at the poop in order to find if everything is all right with your body.


1. Do you actually know your poop?

The brown color of your poop comes from the food that has been digested and all the nutrients have been absorbed from it.

Regular bowel movements are essential for good health, because in that way your body eliminates all the unnecessary substances. Therefore, the color of your poop can tell a lot about your general health.

-- Separate hard lumps, like nuts

This is a clear sign of lack of fiber and fluids in the body, which means that you need to drink more water and consume more fruits and vegetables.


--Sausage-shaped poop, smooth and soft
This is how normal poop should look like and it is a sign of a good health.

Brown
This is the normal color of poop due to the bile produced in the liver.


Green
Eating too much green leaves, veggies, or green-colored food. It might be a sign that your food goes through large intestine so fast.


Yellow
A yellow poop means excess fat in the body or a disorder such as celiac disease.


Black
Black poop is an indicator of cancer or of ulcer, or that you have internal bleeding. There are many reasons for that, such as vitamins containing bismuth sub-salicylate or iron. However, in such case you need to see a doctor.


Light-colored, white or clay-colored poop
This indicates bile duct obstruction and is probably caused by some medications.


Blood-stained or red poop
If you see blood in your poop, it can be a serious concern which needs to be addressed right away!

The food you consume needs 1-3 days to end up in your poop. Poop is made up of bacteria, undigested food, dead cells and mucus. The healthy poop should sink slowly in the water.

People usually go 1-2 times a day, but it depends on a person. Generally, doctors don’t have a recommended frequency, so if you’re going every day you’re doing fine.


How to keep your poop healthy?
Consume 20-25 gr. of fiber every day, drink the recommended amount of water (6-8 glasses) and exercise regularly to have a healthy poop. Proper hydration is very important as it ensures that your colon is slippery enough for the poop to pass.

If you notice some symptoms out of the ordinary in your poop, and they persist then you should visit your doctor. We must pay attention to what our body is telling us.
