Natural Remedies for Dry and Cracked Skin

Dry and cracked skin is a common problem during dry and cold winter months causing it to become dry or even to crack.

Here are some home remedies to help you when this happens.

Exfoliate with sugar and olive oil –  Mix a couple of tbsps of sugar with a few drops of olive oil and rub your hands with the mixture. According to Ann Marie Gianni doing this once a week can make a difference. If you wish to see dramatic changes do this 4 times weekly followed by applying hand lotion.

Honey, lemon juice, and baking soda –  After washing your hand with warm water and mild soap, apply mixture of honey, lemon juice and baking soda and rub your hands in it. Rinse them after 5-10minutes. If you want to reduce age spots do this twice daily.

Petroleum jelly, sugar, dish soap, and lotion –  To heal dry and chaped hands, put 2 spoons of petroleum jelly then add 1spoon of sugar in the palm of your hand and rub it in. Once you can see the dead skin rubbing away, wash your hands with hot water and liquid dish soap and put hand lotion. This was recommended by This Grandma Is Fun.

Butter –  Before going to bed apply butter on your hands and put cotton gloves on. Let it soak overnight to get moisturized and soft hands.

Olive oil and rosemary oil –   According to Ayurvedic Cure, rosemary oil prevents infection and is a natural antiseptic. To fix cracked skin you can use the mixture of the 2. Just add a few drops of rosemary oil to olive oil and massage it to you hands especially between your fingers and nails. Wait for 30 minutes and wash it with warm water.

Sugar and avocado –  Use a mixture of smashed avocado and 1tbsp sugar to massage your hands. The avocado will nourish and the sugar will exfoliate your hands. After you’re done wash them with water avoiding soap.

Oats bath –  Soak you hands in a basin filled with raw oats and warm olive oil and wait for 15 minutes.

Wear gloves to bed –  According to Ann Marie Gianni, you can lock in moisture and make your hands smooth by following this night time ritual: rub coconut oil, jojoba oil or vitamin E into the hands and then put on a pair of gloves or wool socks.

Consult your doctor if dryness and itching interfere with your sleep--or if home treatment does not improve your condition.
